Off Grid FZ House

MEGALONG VALLEY, BLUE MOUNTAINS

Against the Grain provided building services to Anderson Architecture for this entirely off grid house. Located on bushland in the Blue Mountains, the commended design was practice director Simon Anderson’s vision to minimise his family’s energy footprint.

Comprising two steeply pitched skillion-roofed boxes, the home is constructed from fireproof concrete. Low-carbon fibre cement board cladding and decking is used to meet high bushfire attack BAL 40 & BAL FZ house design performance. Stringy bark timber obtain from site was used in the internal structure.

Off Grid House acheived an 8.2 star NatHERs thermal performance rating, with net zero CO2 emissions to build, net zero CO2 emissions to run.
