MODERN VINTAGE

LEURA, BLUE MOUNTAINS

Against the Grain was engaged to rectify a substandard extension on this 100 year old period cottage in the village of Leura.

The result is a contemporary, energy efficient, and open plan space entirely sympathetic to the existing heritage home. Comprising kitchen, living space, two bathrooms and laundry amenities, the extension is flooded with light from custom Against the Grain windows & doors, and features white stringybark floors.

Anchoring the space is a striking black and white stringybark timber kitchen, the result of a rewarding collaboration to realise the client’s vision. In addition, Against the Grain crafted double-glazed windows to match the existing heritage profiles at the front of the property and reroofed the entire house.

Client Testimonial

After speaking to a number of builders we stumbled on Against the Grain. David Spees came out specially to see us on the weekend as we were still living in Sydney at the time.

Right from the start David fully understood what we were trying to achieve and was more than forthcoming with helpful advice. The quote David put together was very thorough which enabled us to meet our budget.

What Against the Grain say they will deliver they do in spades. To say they went above and beyond is an understatement. During bushfires, covid and every kind of weather they turned up on time and worked with great care and craftsmanship.

The team at Against the Grain are outstanding and really decent people. We are both thrilled with the result they delivered for us and have no hesitation in highly recommending them.
