Katoomba Contemporary

KATOOMBA, BLUE MOUNTAINS

This new residential build in Katoomba commenced with construction of a bridge to access the steep bush block. Excavation works saw 680 tonnes of fill carted across, before the house footings were benched in sandstone.

Built across three levels, this three-bedroom home reflects our Client’s love of Australian timber with Ironbark floors; Murray River Red Gum benchtops and Spotted Gum exterior cladding; and reclaimed hardwood beams.

Against the Grain manufactured the stunning central staircase connecting all three levels. Murray River Red Gum treads were sleeved onto steel supports and enclosed with vertical batons. The design increases natural light and visual connection between floors while avoiding the need for a bulky stair stringer.
